Between me and BigBird we collected about 1000 Peppermints :D:D
Ok maybe not that many, but enough not the be able to see the bottom. We got so many peppermints that each net dip we would get like 25-30 peppermints out at at time. :D:D
It took a little courage, but between me and bigbird we where able to get tons of them. Woohoo!
Also BigBird was able to take hom two huge urchings. And he and I took home two anenomes (red and blue). And tons of blennies and gobies. :D
That Jetties collection was worth the trip. :D:D
Now be to those who didnt go, twirl with envy while we roll ourselves in peppermint shrimps. MUIAHAHAHAHA!

collection trip

MAN, WHAT A GREAT TIME!!!!! We could have stayed out a few more hours and supplied all the LFS on the west side of Houston. That was one of the neatest things I have ever seen. We collected peps, blennies, gobies, sgt. majors, beautiful blue/red anemonies and two urchins the size of baseballs. At one spot, there was probably 60 anemonies in one spot. If you didn't go, you missed a treat. The daytime activities were not that great but the night made-up for it. We couldn't catch all of 'em. It was a very long walk out to the end of the jetty (about a mile and 1/2) but "there was Gold in them thar hills". LOL! I enjoyed it with everybody that attended, thanks.

I caught a mated pair of Molly miller Blennies. It was interesting cause I was diping my net for peppermints and these two large molly millers came out. Im assuming they are a mated pair.
The gobies I have no clue. I will have to take pictures of them.

Yeah, those of you who didn't come this weekend missed some awesome collecting last night. We also collected lots of scallops and green pipefish at the seagrass flats, and cerith-looking snails were abundant. My children had a great time catching peppermint shrimp. Jaime and Steve could probably make a living doing it! Also, our newest 2 members came ~ Stan and Rhonda ~ and they did a great job of collecting, as did everyone. I'm glad that everyone had a great time, met new people, got to visit and relax for a spell, and brought home some very nice stuff.

Steve and Jaime, you guys forgot to mention those horridly fugly cucumbers! LOL

I'm dragging my family back to Port Aransas in a month, at the next new moon, for collecting again (the tourists will have gone home LOL). Today on our way back (well, in the hour-long wait to ride the ferry back across the pass), we got to see dolphins swimming and jumping in front of the great big ships crossing the pass. Port Aransas is a very fun island!

Okay, my turn :D

I feel like I've been acclimating critters ALL day. I ended up losing only two peppermint shrimp, and they were the two largest ones I got. Maybe the larger ones don't ship as well? I think that was the only thing I lost, period, other than one of my molly millers managed to jump out of the cooler and landed on the ground (my biggest one, too) and I didn't find him until I saw the ants :( This morning before we headed home, I stopped by the water and did a water change for the critters, and I had my bubble boxes going the whole time (by the way I'm impressed that those batteries lasted so long, still are good)

I ended up with a total of about 50 peppermints, which was all I wanted. In fact, if anyone would like some, I put some in my sump for easy access. We only really kept what we thought we'd want to keep, so we didn't take home very many blennies or sergeant majors. My son wanted to keep the crabs, so I let him have those for his fish only tank. I think there are about five different types altogether.......I hope we don't regret keeping those.

We ended up with a softball sized urchin and a really nice rock with six anemones on it. Two of the anemones drifted off the rock during transport, so we put them on some different rocks in the tank. Two of them are peach colored, two are blue and red, and one looked more green and red, and one hasn't fully opened yet, so I'm not sure what color it will be.

There was some really nice red macro that I got for my fuge, too.

I don't have a digital camera, so no picks.....sorry.

All in all, it was a succesful trip, and I got what I came for.........and then some. I only fell on the jetties once. We won't even go into how I cracked up my car bumper on a piling :D

steve,

you need a valid texas fishing license with saltwater stamp....about 30 bucks when said and done....since it is close to the end of the license year it would be smarter to get a resident 3 day or 7 day license which would only cost you around 15 bucks or so.
