So it cracked from the bulkhead to the bottom of the tank?

IMO replace that glass pane or get a new tank.....180g is a lot of water to clean up.

The cracked to the tank is all the way at the end so it's not really take alot of force. I am so mad right now can not think

That sucks dude! You could maybe cut out the overflow boxes and then install a new piece of glass on top of the cracke piece. That's an awful lot of work though and it still might not be 100%. I would hate to come home to 180 gallons of salt water on the floor.

I use to get those type of tanks for my boa and other reptiles when I use to keep them. You might see if you can find someone that currently keeps big reptiles to buy it from you.

Sorry to hear that about the tank though.

Sorry to hear about the crack!
There was a thread not too long ago and the overwhelming concesus was replace the entire sheet of glass.

Thank you very much all for your though. Here what I plan to do. I will cut a pierce acrylic fit half of the overflow box I will use the silicon clue to the bottom, and use the original overflow w/o the durso for less the force, About the out side( Tank area). I will use pierce of glass or acryclic and silicon clue to cover the crack. I will try it see how it work. If you guy have any better ideal please feel free to help. Wish me luck

That sucks!
But given the head pressure of the 180+ weight of live rocks,I wonder if the fix on the main crack(tank area) will hold still and not leak;that's a big risk and (IMO) not worth it.

good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Have the bottom replaced, no other way around it. Patching it will do no good and after you set it all up, sit back and see your new tank full of everything, just remember how much work went into the setup when it fails on you.

There will be a LOT of weight and pressure on it once it is full of water, sand and live rock.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Dennis,

Mark is right! I have had this happen to me about 6 years ago! The pressure will make that crack go in several directions. Mine split the tank and the front panel came off. Liverock and coral going all different directions, fish in the livingroom. external pumps destroyed! You get the picture! Now you will have to replace more than just a tank! Trust me it is not WORTH IT! joe

Thank you very much for all your advices. I am really appriciated. I think I come out with a decision. I will sale the broken tank on Craiglist as a Terrarium or some one need stand . So I can get some cash back for other tank. Thanks

At the least, though I'd seriously consider a new tank as a better option (particularly if you take the opportunity to get low-iron glass).

wow, very sorry to hear that. That really stinks. I wouldn't risk patching it either. Even if the crack is in the overflow and not the main part of the tank, it's still all one piece of glass and the pressure would extend to that weak area. I'm sure you'll find a good deal on a tank though. Did you get that 300 or 200 or whatever it was?

Your looking at over 1400lbs resting & relying on that piece of glass... I can't think of any 'patch' that I'd be comfortable relying on, that would not be heavier, cheaper and mroe time consuming that jsut replacing the tank.

Pressure on any aquarium is greatest at the bottom. Replace if glass.. if it was acrylic, you would be ok by repairing it.
