so yesterday while getting some supplies from pet co i decided to get an emerald crab and a turbo snail and i did not name them even though i wanted and put them in the tank AND THEY ARE ALIVE. and if they live till Monday they get a title (like the other fish maybe "crusher of limbs" for the crab)

problem is those inverts from petco are probably hooked to the same systems as their fish... which ends up being a potential mode of transmission for ich, velvet tomonts.

It’s no different than lfs.

Snails are easy to qt though. You can keep a few in a 5-10/g tank.

The systems at Petco are tiny and more concentrated in one area. They are LOADED with every parasite known to this hobby. If you want a very high risk of introducing ICH or Velvet to your system...buy from Petco and don't QT. Just dump them in. :D I've had ICH in the past twice from Petco inverts and anemones. (I think with the anemones they came in with the water inside the tentacles of the anemone.)

If you want clean inverts...call John over at reefcleaners as he doesn't house any fish with the inverts. The tanks are basically sterile and inverts are starved.

Check this thread tomorrow for the reply. I've already ask two times before from different accounts. He doesn't know this email either.

Both times he's said NO about the inverts being housed with fish. Never asked about the Macro's yet.

I know the Inverts are clean because I dumped them into my tank, because the shells were so clean you could tell they were in sterile conditions without fish.

Doesn't work if it's "reef safe".

Tomonts stage of their lifecycle can come in w/o water.

To play devils advocate...

Just because there isn't fish in the system doesn't mean there isn't other pests like Aiptasia, AEFW, etc. I wouldn't really be that worried, but I just wanted to throw that out there.

There can’t be AEFW because he doesn’t sell Acropora. Aiptasia is always possible. I do know he’s got Vermetid snails, but most of us already have them.

One of the major things for me was not introducing fish parasites. So that one is safe because just about every parasite excluding Uronema would starve w/o the host, Uronema would like be introduced from a fish which he doesn’t have. :)
