Hi everyone, one of my 250watts megnetic metal halide was not brighter then the other so i called Advance up and they told me to change the capacitor. I order two capacitors and change it out. First, i change the side that is not bright, then i turn it on, the side i just change is brighter then the other. so i go ahead and change the other side too. now both side are same and very bright. 3days later, i notice that 2 of my sps frags close to the top are melting/dying more then halfway.. what can i do to save them?

is the flesh coming off or is it bleaching. You should definately acclimate all corals to stronger light slowly

you can cover the area where the flesh is coming off with superglue. Sucks man sorry, The frags I have left have all turned sky blue. If you dont save these let me know.

if the tissue is coming off in a larger area than super glue can patch you may not be able to do anything at this point. All corals, not just sps frags need to acclimated to changes in lighting. From higher light even to low and especially from lower to higher.

I'm sure sorry to hear that.. These corals aren't as forgiving as some others.

Sue, could you please elaborate on the super glue thing? In the last month, i went from 150hqi to 250hqi and 8hr light to 6hr, 7hr, and now 8 hr on the 250's again. No problems at all except for a red hyacinth shows some dead white tips (2 tips). I was slightly concerned, but figured it would eventually just adjust to the light and be fine.

sure, toefu, what is done is to take a gel glue type and ooze enough gel to cover the area thats bleaching, rtn'ing, stn'ing. Like a bandage. I've used it a lot earlier in my keeping these corals. If the tissue loss is more widespread it is not as good of an idea, but if it's a smaller area it works great. Tissue will regrow the area and you'll never know it had any problems.
