While people are out collecting, I thought I would start a reference list for what we are all looking for. Basically list out what you are looking for, and the maximum you want. If you catch something that someone else has listed, you can contact them and organize a trade.

Remember; this is wild caught stuff, so please make lists intelligently. Only ask for stuff you know you can keep. Don't ask for sea-horses to put into your angler tank... Also don't ask for 10 pipefish when you can't feed that many.

Just FYI, I can get gulf pipefish easily enough. The smallest ones eat baby brine, and the largest ones eat fully grown brine.

Have you ever tried to get them to feed on frozen mysid shrimp or pellets or cyclopeze or anything like that?

Never tried. I am 99.999999999% sure they will never take pellets. As for cyclopeze and frozen... I'll have to try soon. I hatch my own baby brine for the little guys. After about an hour, I collected 6 large gulf pipes (1 mated pair), a chain pipefish, and the little guy in the second picture.

This is my personal baby. This is a sargassum pipe. When it grows up, it is going to look awesome.

Very cool. Let me know if you ever get a chance to test on the other foods. would be interesting to know. I like pipe fish and actually have frozen brine shrimp eggs. but it I could avoid having to hatch them that would be cool.

The other side of san-louis pass on the bay side. Christmas bay is a massive sea-grass flat, perfect for pipefish and sea horses. I have yet to catch a seahorse, but I'm not going to stop till I do.

Just FYI, it is MAJORLY ILLEGAL to pull up sea grass. I drag my net just above the bottom, and still have amazing luck. IF you want sea grass for your tank, it is legal to collect sprigs that are floating in the water, that have already become dislodged. The thin stuff is Halodule wrightii, and is perfect for tanks. The thick stuff is Thallasia aka turtle grass. Turtle grass grows much slower and is more delicate than the thinner stuff. Turtle grass is one of those things that IMO should be left IN THE OCEAN.

Also, remember that this area is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT as a nursery to many of our major game fish, especially redfish. I learned about this area when we were doing redfish tagging at school. Don't take baby fish home to your tank, as they are probably game fish, and as such, are WELL BELOW minimum catch size. If you pull up a bunch of baby fish, quickly put them back so they have a decent chance at survival.

For the ones that don't want to go to san-louis pass you can also stop off of I-45 on the west side of the road just a couple miles before the bridge ands see all the grass. I tried this spot for the first time this week and got a mess load of grass shrimp, 4 pipe, 2 really small needle fish and 9 really small finger mullet. The mullet are great for cleaning your sand.
Found a dead pony. But no live ones. But that shows there out there.

So if I'm coming from the north... it's before tiki island but after bayou vista? Is there a rest stop with a parking lot and benches? Just to make sure I'm thinking of the same place.

San louis pass is my area. Someone else was talking about 45. I just wanted to make sure I was thinking of the right place.

Storms are bad here on the island just FYI. People might be disappointed this weekend.
