My wife and I are in the process of designing a new home and we are in the final stages of the design phase with plans out to a structural engineer for approval. As part of this new build my wife is "letting" me buy a new tank, a big tank but it has to be a custom size to fit in the space we are looking at. The tank will be 80X30X30 for a total volume just over 300 gallons. I had looked around and who could build this type of tank and stand for me and locally (which I would prefer to do it locally) it came back to the Aquarium Design Group (ADG) here in Houston. The wife and I made an appointment and went in and talk to them about our options and we were both very encouraged by what we had seen and heard.

It's not my goal to come here and trash ADG (they are nice guys and I think they have great products) so I won't get into the specifics of our situation but rather to find out what other options we might have. If I don't say "not ADG" I know that everyone is going to probably suggest ADG and that's what I would have done.

Anyone had any experience with getting a custom tank made and can you recommend your tank builder?

Thanks,

Scott

I need to swing by urban. Anybody who has a healthy blue S. Gigantea in their slideshow of pics is ok in my book.

So what kind of fish selection do they have there?
They have a lot of nice stuff, swing by and check them out. They can order anything from any where as well.

City Pets has a pretty good connection with Aqueon & other Aquariums. Not sure where or who they're getting them from, but they are receiving some really nice standard tanks and big ones to. Prices are nice, and they have both regular and RR tanks. They're close, so no shipping to get the tank here. I'd be willing to bet that they can order a 300/G easy. I've seen some nice 220's in the store. I was gonna buy a RR 180/G for about $750 a few months ago. Nice Aqueon too. I'll ask them the next time I'm there. Kinda wondering myself just how big they can order.

Nothing better than a custom tank, 80X30X30.
You can also do 80x36x27, the 30" depth can be a pain for reaching the bottom some times.

I just ordered a 280 from reef savvy. I am really excited just a little sad that there is a 6 month lead time.
