If not in right section my apologies.

Search returns way to many non topic replies and I am sure there is lots of threads on this, but I cant find via search.

I need to rid my tank of 5 damsels. I have built the standard bottle traps and have only caught one with the rest not going anywhere near the hole.

I was thinking to just starve them over a day or so, but was wondering if yall had any more ideas on catching them. Ha tried all different types of food as well.

Thanks in advance

electric shock :D - i'm kidding. I have never had luck with traps trying to get my anthias out - but lots of folk here have had luck with traps so hopefully they will pop in and give some insight. At some point i'm going to have to pull the rocks...

How big is your tank and how much rock do you have in it? If it's a smallish tank, you might be better served by just taking out most of the rock and using a net.

LOL You are not the first of us to put an unwanted damsel in their tank. I ended up having to pull all of the rock work... what a pain. If you have the time I would stick with the traps. If you dont have time to wait, pull the rock.

They make a trap/fish acclimator on the aquarium supplies section of liveaquaria.com. but I guess you still have to get them in there.

Like I said before...If you have a smaller tank without a ton of coral mounted everywhere, you're better off just pulling most of the rock. Traps can, and usually do, work. However, it can take days to weeks to do so.

Bottle trap works... Don't feed them, except inside the trap, they'll go in.

+1 I recently used the bottle trap and that worked like a charm...caught him on the third day. Smart little buggers. They have to get used to the bottle being in the tank also.

Try using turkey baster to lure them to the bottle opening and when they get close squirt the rest into the bottle. That's how I got mine to follow in.

I lost the thread and wow search didnt find me lol

I caught one in a few mins and keep catching a goby I want to keep. Ha, caught him 3 times so far.

Havent fed them and guess dont plan on till I catch them all. I just redid the tank so no way moving the rock, tho its a 58 gl tank so would be a pain, tho might have to since I want new fish and they need to go.

One bottle trap opening was to big and the fish swam right out.

GUess its a waiting game.

THANKS all for your help

I cut egg crate down to the width of my tank and started to create sections that were smaller until i had him in an upper corner and then just netted him out of that area. Worked pretty quick, took about 30 mins and didn't have to move any rock around.

i have seen people catch minnows with a coke bottle like the bottle in the pic they cut the top off and put it facing inside a 2 liter bottle would work well for this and you could just cut the top off large enough for the fish ...the clear bottle doesnt scare them
