i recently purchased 2 giant hammer at a LFS. They were fully expanded until i placed them in my tank. they're 50% open. Are they difficult to keep? what are their requirements. I know i've should have done some researchs as u can see it's an impulsive purchase

Welcome to MARSH...
When did you get them?
What size tank and what kind of lights?

Probably too much light. I have dual 250w HQI's on my 75, and the hammer's can't stand being in direct light, even at the bottom of the tank.

It could be two things if you just got them then they are just getting used to you system. The other thing could be too much light where do you have them placed? Are these your first corals in the tank?

these are not my first corals. My tank is about 7 months old with plenty of critters and LR. i place my hammer at the bottom of my tank come to think about it 400 watt isnt too intense on a 75 gallons since it only cover half my tank. could it be too much current? how long is long enough for themn to get use to its new tank.?

Too much current can be a problem they like to wave gently but don't want a power head pointed right on them. Sounds like you are doing everything right so if it is opening half way I wouldn't worry too much sometimes it takes some time. I bought a giant torch colony one time and I think it was a couple of weeks before it looked as good as it did at the LFS.

I've kept hammers under >1200 watts of lights in a small tank and in direct flow with no problems.

i've had my hammer a month or so when i upgraded lights to 2 96w vho a couple weeks back it still hasnt came back out full like it was when i bought it. when i first put it in it came out better than when it was at the lfs then down to where it just came out a little now its only out alittle more but it has lilones on it and they are still going strong
just give it time
