Well I wanna hang my light but not from the ceiling. I wanna do the "light tree" style. Wondering if anyone has any experience in bending conduit, I have no where to do all this being that im in a apt. So any help is appreciated. My lights are way too close to the tank and the legs that come with it are crappy.

Here are a few links that I pulled up that give any of you an idea what I want it to look like.

I have an outer orbit fixture and its heavy as hell so I want it to be very sturdy.
Thanks

Is your tank by a wall? A friend of mine hung his metal halide from some sort of shelf supports he got from ikea ... painted them to match the wall. It looks good too!

e: found a picture of it.

Yes its by a wall, but I am not matched up with my studs on the ceiling, and not sure about the ones on the wall I need to check and see what I can do. I am open to any hanging method at this moment.

you could maybe do a pair of 1x2's with a pair of long plant hooks...

or get the pipe and rent a bender, or maybe even get em done at a lowes/home despot.

Ok, I have a Nano that did not come with a top so I used extra long-extra strong plant hooks/shelving brackets. Hook hangs over tank almost all the way across. Used few zip ties around the light fixture. Mine has area between ballast and reflectors.
Suspended over tank. can move across as necessary. Painted plant hangers/shelf brackets to match wall. Used clear heavy fishing line to hang and you cannot see it hanging from anything @ all.
The only thing I do not like is the power cord and what to do with it.
I have everything hanging (cords) on one side so at least it doesn't look cluttered.
My son used steel cable and that looks really cool. But, you gotta waterproof it someway. Or buy waterproof to begin with because saltwater sure is hard on some metals.
He recently built a canopy for his but he used lightweight wood for structure around lights-from lights and covered w/waterproofed canvas. So it looks like a canopy but it is very light and cool. 3 sided-the back is open.
Front panel slides off for service.
Kinda like a cornice board if you have seen those used for curtains.
Good luckf

Oh, also Omar @ fish gallery told us you can bend PVC pipe filling it with sand. Apply heat gun to area you want to bend.... then bend while warm....that's it.
My son and I did it. You need 2 people.
One to hold the heat gun and 1 to bend the pipe.
Don't do it in July-outside-in the middle of the afternoon.
If you get too close you can scorch the pipe and it looks toasty but still works. May need to paint???
It is not all that easy but he was bending e 1.5 inch pipe. A thiner/smaller diameter one may not be so stubborn.

Thats exactly what I wanna do but have one on each side of the light fixture, so double hangers... I am assuming that Home Depot let you do the bending?
