You've probably heard this, but the tropic eden reef flakes are a great sand- like them a lot better than caribsea. As far as the "live" part just seed from existing or friend's existing tank.

Very good advice. I've always heard that "live" sand isn't really all that live anymore because of how long it sits in those bags. If you truly want to kick start your tank look at the sand inigo mentioned and a bottle of Dr. Tim's One and Only. It's a bottle of nitrifying bacteria. Many of us have used it with great results.

I can back the Dr. Tim's statement. I used it after seeing you use it (if i remember correctly) and it does indeed work.

How long do you guys wait until adding live stock when using the Dr. Tim's?
