I've had the same scape for the last 3 years and I was quite tired of it. I thought, since I barely have any livestock in the tank, why not change the scape now. I'd like your honest opinion of how it looks. No sugar coating...if it looks like crap to you, tell me. I tried for a 60/40 with a small valley running diagonally between the two formations.

I wanted one side really tall but I see what you're saying. I've rendered those top rocks useless.

I like the overall concept. The two islands look like a pile of rocks...you might try to see if the rocks might fit together more seamlessly (unless that is not the design you are going for). Also...and this is just my OCD, but try and keep your lighter rocks and darker rocks together....essentially for the same reason as above, it makes it look more like one large rock instead of a pile. ...Just my .02

I think the pieces look really disjointed as opposed to a seamless cluster of rock. Bulk reef supply has a video on aquascaping/rock that you may find helpful.

Honestly, once you blanket it with corals, it will look seamless. The rock scape doesn't matter so much unless you're just planning on having a tank full of rocks.

I'd remove these two rocks if it were my 'scape.

+1 to what Cody said... doesn't really matter as much once covered in corals, it'll look seamless.

My goal was to make two structures but have plenty of room for the fish to swim in/through.

I'd remove these two rocks if it were my 'scape.

I can definitely see removing the one on the left, it was the last rock left and we were already done. The rock on the right is supporting the rock at the 1 o'clock position from it. On the right one, what would you suggest?

BTW, great comments guys! Good or bad, criticism welcome

Man, that's total crap !!!

lol, not really....I have seen worse, but have seen much better.

Here my opinion. Since you obviously like open scaping which can be very beautiful, try to arrange all the stuff with plateau's !!!!! Looks georgeous and really nice to place corals on later on.

You can glue rock together with the green coral clay (quite expensive).

However, plateau's style arrangements look really beautiful instead of piles of rocks ;-)
I would do it with a huge tank, right now I have more a sloped reef-rockwall, but did some plateau's.

I couldn't tell you how to rearrange it without looking at it in person but removing the right piece would truly open the middle, allowing line of sight to see a real separation between both structures.

I'm not sure if I'm making it better or jacking it up even worse at this point. Changed a few thing on the left and filled in the piece on the right that ATX said remove. At this point, I may just burn down the tank lol.

I think it looks pretty good. If it were me, I would take a hammer and chisel to the larger rocks and break them in half. This allows more room in the tank and gives you more to work with.

I would also position the structures a little different. You can turn them to off set them more.

My wife and I were talking about turning the structures to where they aren't both facing straight forward.
I may also take a chisel to it also. Thanks

I think you might like the look of a slight angle. You'd be surprised how good a minimal aquascape looks. If you want to make something really cool. Order about 5 EPO puttys. Wet your hands and the putty while you work with it. It's by far the best putty I've used. I'll build, let it completely dry...then build off that. You can make some cool structures.
