I second the vote for T. derasa. These are great clams and IMO the most hardy of the Tridacnid clams.

I have a T. derasa that I bought around 1999 or 2000 from FishLand on Westheimer. It is now 12"+ (Huge!). It's fun to have a real "giant" clam.

Thats definitely a T. derasa. Crocea would have some ridges on the side of the shell. Not shutes like a maxima...

Sure is a clean shell.

Not only that, Sue, but the t. Derasa's really only have 1 of 2 mantle coloration patterns. Crocea's are almost always some color morph of blue throughout, be it aquamarine, blue, or purple. Derasa's are gold in the center, maybe w/ some green, and a blue rim.

Nick, that is a beautiful derasa clam. It will only get better looking. I do see some minor central line bleaching, but that I'm sure is from the previous environment it was in.

Be sure it gets some good feedings of DT's and good water quality and I know it'll regain the zoo. in that area.
