I need some help ID'ing. We typically check out the tank after lights out each night using an illuminated magnifying glass. Last night we saw several fast swimming rod shaped critters. They were no more than a 1/4 inch or 1 cm, maybe a little thicker than a pencil lead and were solid colors in red, blue and green.

They were attracted to the light and ended in the the corner by the tv. Two nassarius snails were attracted and seemed like they were trying to attack them (or vice versa?).

Tank is 90 gallon mixed reef ~ 3 months old. It was seeded with fully cured rock from another members tank and has a 29 gallon sump/refugium.

Anyone have any idea what they might be. I've looked online but haven't found anything yet.

Thanks,

Welcome, to Marsh-wmatt140

I have not seen you post before.

I suppose those are pods-I see them running around my tank after lights out. I have never been able to see what color they are. Mostly almost transparent. Could have been reflection off the TV lights but they are too fast for me to ID.
Fish love eating them-so that's why I think we only see them @ night after the fish are tucked into bed.
Those are the famous lifeforms that support a Mandarin goby because their diet is mostly pods. They can be trained to eat other food but difficult.
Next time watch a Mandarin eat-hovers over the rock and pecks at invisible stuff all day long. :)
When we shake up the micro algae in the sump all our fish line up where the return inlet to the tank shoots in and have a feeding frenzy but only they see what they are catching. But they have alot of fun. I suppose it's copepods they are netting.
Something new everyday-
