I thought all houses came prewired now for cable, internet, phone, alarm system, and surround sound?? I know the builder that built our house 3 1/2 years ago does all his houses that way. You may want to get with your builder while you're still in the early stages. I would also talk to them about insulating all the interior walls and doing the reflective barrier in the attic as well. It will cost you about $3k-4k up front, but will pay for itself in less than 2 years. We are having both done when they start tearing our house down from the hurricane damage with Ike. I'm also going to have them add ridge vents to the house along with the whirly birds. Having 12ft ceilings stinks in the summer time with our nice $400/month electric bill.
the house did have the option for prewired everything...

we had the cable prewired, but the rest we opted to leave out. yes, i would love to have surround sound, but i don't even have a surround sound system yet and with all the other things we have to purchase and pay for at or prior to move-in, we left stuff like surround sound off the list.

Will the builder allow you to do it while there are no walls? A couple hundred in network and speaker cable will save you tons down the road, I dropped 2 cat 5 network cables in every room and now wish I had dropped more.

well, the walls are already up. i'm a little behind on my updates. they put sheet rock up yesterday, taped and floated today (maybe even more...haven't been there yet).

i've run tons and tons of network cable before, so i'm not terribly worried about it. i know it's kind of a pain in the butt to do after walls and insulation are up, but i'll get around it.

as for the taxes...i wish i got to keep all 8k to myself. but that's pretty much going right back into the house, and whatever is left over is going to savings. the tank is not a necessity at the moment (well, it is to me, but not to the mrs).

my buddy hired a 3rd party inspector, found tons of gigs, made them fix it on the spot. might be 500 bux well spent.

We did the same thing...cost us $385, but very well spent. He found several things that I overlooked and we made the builder correct them before we closed.

Not all builders do this, it also depends on the price range of the house from the builder, i suspect homes under $130 don't come with such features, for others it's a upgrade. with the economy in the state it's in my builder took out all the bells and wistles, so now you have to pay for what was once free. pre-wiring in my comunity when we bought our house was a upgrade, and i could not do the up-grade due to the fact that the house was in process of being built, when the original buyer bailed out.

i've actually had an inspector come out. so far everything has passed (foundation, frame, sheet rock and insulation). it's good to have an inspector in the family!

House looks sweet, I wish you guys the best with it. When you're moving in and you need a hook up on TV's / audio and such hit me up I'll hook you up. I can get you a good deal on a Bang & Olufsen system. If you don't want to go that route I can pretty much get you any TV or sound system available.

Oh yeah... Don't do wireless surround sound horrible quality.....

Did you get a 40A circuit run to the room holding the aquarium?
thought about it. but haven't yet. as it looks right now, i'm selling everything and planning the upgrade, so i won't have a tank for a while. i know i should have done it before hand, but quite a bit pricey and things are already tight right now.

youre really limited to what the builder provides since technically you dont own the house until you sign.. trust me, I just bought a house too and I even asked about coming in and wiring every room and CAT5 myself but they said no since its a liability and technically nothing is for sure until you get to closing since anything can happen

house looks good brandon
