I thought the built in desk area was where the tank was going!
i thought about that at one point...but it's not big enough. i'm shooting for a 72" tank and i think that space is like 50" or around there.

That's a first for me....never seen them put in cabinets first and then paint.....I've always seen them paint first then put the cabinets in last so they don't get paint on them. They are going to have a lot of papering and taping to do to control overspray.

It's looking real good though B. You know you have to throw a housewarming party...right??

they actually spray textured the walls after the cabinets were in too. they did a great job of taping and covering...so no worries.

as for the party...yeah i know. after the tank gets here for sure!!! everyone just bring a frag of their most exotic coral :D .

so, ... nationwide WASN'T on your sidethen?

they were on my side. good insurance, unfortunately, during these times, need to maximize all $$. a few hundred here, a few hundred there. it seemed my rates were constsantly creeping up little by little. i dont mind paying for service, but when i can save substantial dough, i take it .

update...

been a while since the last update, but been working hard and haven't had time to run by the house too much.

The builders put the stone on the house and completely finished the brick!

and some of the trim work is put in place...

I'm still trying to work out the tank details and selling my current setup has been tough. But I'm working on it.

forgot to mention that they've textured and painted the walls, painted the trim, laid the tile, and are preparing to pour the drive way, back patio, and slab for air conditioner unit. don't have pics loaded for all that yet, but they're coming. i promise.

I spoke with Jesse over at Elos USA and he may have talked me out of the 72 x 26 x 20 setup and into an Elos 160XL (63 x 31.5 x 24).

Originally, I wanted to go with an Aquarium Obsessed tank much like the current one I have now, only bigger and rimless. They wouldn't reply to any of my emails so I tried A.G.E. They gave me a quote and I thought it over, then tried to get quotes from other vendors just to see the price differences. After deciding not to go with a closed loop setup, I sort of ditched A.G.E. (not totally though...I may still go with them). The big reason for originally choosing them was their Schedule 80 PVC bottom. But, I'm going to entertain Elos a bit and see what I can get accomplished with them. Jesse seemed to be really helpful and enthusiastic about the product, so if I can get rid of all my stuff I'm selling, perhaps I'll go with the Elos.

As for the house...a few minor updates. Counters in the bathrooms are done. We have electricity and some sand in the yard to level it all out, but that's about it.

Brandon,

Did you already sell your current tank then? I just don't understand why you'd spend so much money to get a new tank that is so similar to what you already have. If you end up with something 24h, what is your motivation for switching? Just rimless? I suppose that is probably cool enough by itself, but I would want a totally different style/ shape too...

I think the main reason for switching is to get more depth...or at least that's what I thought, but I would go at least 36" deep if I were shelling out that much dough. Whatever he decides to do I know it will look great in a year or so.

yeah, initially i wanted to go with a much deeper tank...to 36".

this whole elos thing may just be a phase honestly, but dang those are great looking setups. i am still thinking about it though.

ok, i just reread all the emails and i think i'm going to go with the AGE 72x36x20. this isn't set in stone yet, but it's the most bang for my buck.

Those are some nice dims! I think that's why I like the new marineland tanks is becuase of their depth. T&T had a 300 that was so sweet!

If you want to see the ELOS 120xl feel free to come over. I have moved so it is a bit of a drive for you. Congrats on the new house.

Jesse is top notch cant tell you how many times I have called him and all the parts he has sent me free of charge. Great Customer Service

Can't really tell you which way to go on the tank since I own both. I think it comes down to overflow design and if you plan to go closed loop.

Hi, Brandon.

Congrats on the new house, looks good, you'll enjoy it...

Why are you opting out of the closed loop? IMO, no power heads in the tank really improves the overall look, a lot...

good luck,
Steve

here's why...

a reeflo hammerhead puts out 5800 gph max with 375 watts max.

an ecotech vortech mp40w puts out 3200 gph max at 28 watts max. two mp40's would get me to 6400 gph at only 56 watts, which is 1/7th the energy usage of the hammerhead pump alone (the ocean motions uses a bit of energy as well).

so...

from an energy efficiency standpoint, it makes more sense to have powerheads than a closed loop. i mean i could have 7 vortechs and only use about 200 watts. that's over 21000 gph!
