Woke up this morning and there was a slime on the walls of both tanks, common sump, Ran the magnet and they cleaned easily but there was a slime floating all around the
tanks. # hours later walked into the room and one of the aquariums fortunately just started to overflow. Quickly killed the pump and started looking. Both overflows were all
gummy with the slime that came off the walls. Whats really scary is Im having surgery on Monday and will not be available at all for 2 to 3 days. Anyone have a clue why the slime
Havent added anything in months.

Hard to say for sure, but I agree with soymilk and it sounds like a bacterial bloom. Maybe dose with a competing culture to see if it helps. Have you verified nothing died as well?

Does it look like this? (See viscosity) I think he was dealing with a new tank but general consensus was too much carbon (sugar, vodka etc.)

Sorry.. I have Dino ptsd. I have never seen so much slime in a tank. Everything looks like Dino’s and need to be treated accordingly.

I know the feeling. Having fought the crap multiple times. My wife cringes anytime she sees something that is red-ish in color and has a bubble on it. She knows I'm gonna go full on battle mode and start hooking up the UV, breaking out the cardboard and tape to do a blackout etc.. etc..

I’ve had clogged filter socks create a slime and film on the surface in the DT due to the water not being about to turn over efficiently. If you have socks…might be good to check.

So socks have been overflowing every day, Been changing every afternoon. While the glass has been clear except top edge I pulled all
cleaning magnets (4) and cleaned them. They were so slimy could hardly hold on to them. Letting them dry good before putting them back.
This has many really nervous as having major surgery on Monday and want even be here for 2 days. My daughter who is a reefer but hope this
is cleared up by then. Did a 100 gal water change yesterday want have time to do another before surgery.

Since you don't know the cause of the slim just run some carbon to be safe and change those overflowing filter socks. If water is over flowing from the socks then it's not really filtering.

Good luck with your surgery David.

How old are the filter socks? Are they the felt or mesh type?

I stopped using the felt type socks and went to 100 micron nylon mesh. They are super easy to clean out and a once a month soak in bleach keeps them as good as new. Had the same two for three years now with no issues. When I ran felt even soaking in bleach running them in the washer (much to my wife's dismay) they would eventually start clogging up after a day's use leading me to replace them every 3 months. Now if I need to really clean particulate out of the tank, I have some 50 micron filter felt material that I can cut a long strip and put it in the spill way after the fuge and use it as a poor man's roller mat.
