I bought a used Lifereef SVS3-24 in-sump Skimmer and Jeff recommends the MagDrive 9.5.

Does anyone use the MagDrive 9.5 and is it loud? If you use a different pump please recommend.

Thanks,Matt

Bought mine last year with the 9.5 and switched to the jecod. Didn't notice much of a difference in noise (Venturi was louder than the pump).

Mag drives are pretty quiet. I've been using one as a return pump for the better part of 10 years(MagDrive 12). The only time you might have an issue is with vibration if resting right on the floor. What some people do to remedy this is put a silicone mat underneath the pump if it rests on the floor.
I just put a couple of beads of silicone on the bottom of the pump let dry a couple of days and its vibration free.
As below radar suggests there are DC pumps that are more energy efficient, come with adjustable flow, and are silent. Downfall is they cost quite a bit more.

My Life reef SV3 24 has run well on a mag 9.5 and a jecoddct 6000. I started out with the mag drive 9.5 because I already owned the pump. I purchased the jecod dct 6000 to lower the heat in my tank and it also pulls 1.2 amps lessthan the mag drive. The 9.5 is stronger for sure, but the DCT 6000 is plenty offlow for my 135 gallon system.

I Can’t say enough good things about the Reef life skimmer. It’s a work horse

Same here. I started with the mag 9.5 and switched to a jecod. The mag was giving out too much heat, but no problem with the sound. I would stick with the mag 9.5 if you don't have a problem with temperature, they are very reliable pumps.

I agree lucho. mag drive pumps run extremely hot. I use a mag 12 in a 65 gallon vertical container to mix my salt and the water runs about 88-90°F after about 24 hours of mixing. I'd definitely use something else in sump if your tank runs on the warmer side.

Hey Matt,

thx for being over grabbing some anemones.
I see you got the skimmer we talked about.

So just watch out, not to overskim your tank with that skimmer ;-)

Andre,

Yes sir I remember you said that about the Lifereef skimmer, After seeing yours in action I had to get one.

PS, your tank and corals are one of the best I've ever seen, And thanks for the good deal on the Anemones.

The good news is you can always put it on a timer if it pulls too much.

I got a Jebao/ jecod DCT 6000 DC Marine Max flow: 1585 GPH ,

I have it on the 7th led light there are 10 leds so 70% power, It's skimming great the only thing is there is a kinda high pitch hum coming from the pump.

I tried to lower the power and the hum lowers in volume but then the skimmer is not skimming.

Does anyone have run a vectra M1 Dc on their Lifereef Skimmer if so does yours have a high pitch hum ?

Thanks, Matt
