So I have a 75g tank, overflow with a siphon that seems to be pulling out more water than the sump is pushing out.

How do I fix this? :?

You need an overflow box on the inside of the tank for it to work correctly. The overflow box controls how much water is taken out of your tank.

This isn't the best picture but it is what I have for a correct overflow box.

The water spills over into the overflow box then is siphoned into the outside box to drain to the sump.

Here is a nice little video of a CPR overflow system http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zVGwdRVHU4

Yeah I made a noob bonehead error. I had that box in my overflow tank holding my sump higher up.... So I got it out and fixed it properly now it has regulated itself.

Thanks for assisting the tard :)

We love tards!!!

Actually external overflow boxes are difficult even for experienced reefers to use .

Thanks. Just need to get some rock in there for the time being to get it cycling and get my stand all together... need to put the doors back on and finish drawing on it :)

Is it required to have a light while the rock is in?

I like your stand art.

You wont need any light while your tank is cycling. Just set correct salinity, put rock/sand in, and let it run for a couple of weeks. Enjoy this time by watching all the micro fauna proliferate in your tank before you add any inhabitants.

Chris - Thanks for the info. And thanks for the compliment on the stand... when I got it from someone on Craigslist it was pretty beat up so I sanded everything, painted it blue, and then was like hmm lets make this a little more interesting. I still need to put the doors on and draw on them so it looks good but thank you :)

I just got a new stand and canopy for my 75, had to sand and repaint as well. I was thinking about doing something like that to mine. Still just might do it. I just dont want it to take a way from the focus on the tank.

Yeah I doubt it would. Just did something simple to add a little creativity and something different than most. I'm doing mine without the canopy now.

I was thinking of a mad airbush on the stand/canopy. I think it would look awesome. Plus something iv never seen before.

Never tried airbrush but I sure would do it if I had one. I bet it would come out much better than the paint pens I'm using.
