I cant make up my mind. I have a stunning BTA and want a nice clown pair to go with it. I am on the fence between Ocellaris and other varieties. Although occ have bad hosting record, they are the most beautiful to me. What would you do?

That is a tough choice. I have never had a cinnamon or tomato, but I have had the other three. My Ocellaris was with a carpet anemone, so I'm not familiar with keeping them with BTAs. It was the most mellow of the three - it never bothered anyone that I can recall. My Clarkii harasses a large fairy wrasse and has bitten me. My maroon and gold is very aggressive towards flame angels when first introduced, but it seems to be able to come to a truce after a few days.

If you're thinking long term, the maroon and gold ones eventually lose their stripes apparently. Mine is 14 years old and still has very intense colored stripes, but they are getting thinner.

When I have to replace one of mine, I think it will be between an Ocellaris and a maroon, but I'm not sure which one it will be.

I've always been a fan of Ocellaris, but when I saw the maroon Gold x Lightning I fell for them. They are awesome... but don't forget Maroons get bigger and aggressive. I was just "moving" a Sherman BTA that decided to go for a stroll the other day and the female came out of the other anemone and kept attacking me the whole time. Although that kinda helps since I have two tangs which are pretty "aggressive" and in your face and they leave the clowns alone completely.

Still if you want an Occellaris I wouldn't let the fact they aren't symbolic hosts to BTA deter you. You can try isolating them with it for a bit to see if you can encourage them to host in it. There's a lot of ways to "help" them figure it out. I've never had a problem with them not hosting, sometimes it just takes a while to begin.
