Well Today i Had to move my tank (72 gal). i done this before but i only had few coral to move .This time i had alot of coral to move . half my coral i set aside in my nano tank which i left behind and my fish . I took most of my stone coral with me . i took all the water with me also since it was only maybe about 60gals of water Due to the live rock and sand i minus 12gals .
I moved from Houston to humble , the whole process took me 5hrs to take apart and set up . Boy was i sweatin. After a broken back and sore hands , everything seem to be doing nice, everything open expect few softies but ill find out later today . i cross my figures that everything lives .

I'm going to vodka dose to keep everything under control . i know I'm going to get an ammo spike from moving the sand and rocks . Later today going to be moving my 40gal with the fish and coral , Then The Next day im going to have to move my 210gal (fish only),I have no ideal how im going to be moving this sucker . there no way i can save all that water . Only thing i can the is taking all my fish out and droping them in my 40 gal till i can cycle my tank again .

What do you guys think i should do ? It houses 3 bamboo sharks (under 11in) 1 mono 2 scats and fugly damsel and snow flake eel .

Here pic after my set up .
it a bit cloudy from the move . Plus i Have Buy some putty to put ever thing in place .

looks like everything will be fine...As opposed to dosing the vodka to keep everything under control, I suggest mixing you a huge batch of saltwater, to handle the ammonia spike (it shouldn't be a very large spike.) Check your ammonia levels about every 2 hours...once you notice it starting to rise, do a 50% water change. You LR will handle the rest.

i just moved also (austin to houston) and its been my third with fish. I must say that only taking a little of the tank water (maybe half or less) and adding new water has done wonders for me.

good luck on the broken back i am also recovering :p

If possible do not use the old sand. Once you move the sand it screws up everything.

Over time you have detritus build up in the sand bed and when you move it, imagine all the fish poop and other waste that comes out of the sand.

I wouldn't dose vodka on a fresh setup.

Water changes. Water changes. Water changes.

As far as the sand goes, I'd remove all of it from original tank, seperate 2-5 lbs of it into a bucket.

Throughly rinse ALL remaining sand using tap or hose water(contains chlorine which will kill harmful bacteria). Once fully rinsed to a "near new" status, place clean sand back in tank. Give clean sand 2-5 hours to clear up & then add old sand.

Place old sand in drinking glass and use it to make little piles of live sand all around the sand bed.
