So just about a year ago I rescued my tank from my in-laws. It's a 120 Oceanic all glass tank that had been set up as a FOWLR for many years. Everything was state of the art circa 1992, running a wet dry filter and a single fluorescent tube. Here's the pic from right after I moved it to my house.
Since moving the tank, I knew I wanted a reef tank. I hadn't had one since the early nineties, and I was never all that successful back then. Soon after the research started, I found MARSH. The advice was plentiful, and I met a lot of nice people as well. since I wasn't familiar with the idea of a tank build thread, I never started one. So here is the update from one year later.
Now I'm running a Reef Dynamics skimmer in a sump made out of my old trickle filter. I'm using calcium, bio-pellet, and GFO reactors. For lighting, I have a 48" Reefbreeder Photon series. The tank is dominantly LPS with a few softies, and a couple of SPS.
Along the way, I upgraded the original light to a 4 bulb HO fluorescent before realizing I liked the LED's better. I'm a little ashamed to list the corals and fish I've lost along the way. I'm happy to say that many more are currently thriving than were ever lost.
I just wanted to take a second to say thanks to everyone for the help along the way. Who knows where the tank will be in another year.
