Hey all,

I'm hooking up the plumbing for my 75 gallon and I haven't found a good resource for where my overflow drain pipe level should be. Here is a pic of how it is currently setup:

It is a little blurry, but the water level is basically very close to the top of the overflow. Should the drain pipe be cut so that I can lower the water level in the overflow?

Looks to be about the right level for that overflow Brian. Also that drain should be one that slips up and down to adjust.

Why is the water level bothering you in your overflow box? If it is closer to the top it should make it nice and quiet. How is your current setup draining? Is it nice and smooth? I only ask because if I remember correctly, the durso standpipe should be bigger pipe than the size of the bulkhead. So if you have a one inch bulkhead you should use one and a quarter inch pipe for your durso etc etc.

Having a reef ready tank is new to me(always had overflow boxes with U tubes before) and I just didn't know if it mattered and once my tank is setup in my living room(with no access to the back) i'm stuck with what I've got unless I tear down and empty the tank.

I guess I just didn't want Brandon coming on here and saying, well, DUH Brian your overflow shouldn't be more than half full with water :D

The flow has been pretty steady with the occasional slurping sound when the drain hose changed position in my temporary sump. I'm hoping to cure that once I setup my permanant sump under the stand and secure the hose.

Thanks for answering guys!

ditto on Brandon's comment about the water level in the overflow box. keep it as close to the top as you can to minimize the noise - unless you like that noise - as a friend of mine does :D you get less air transfer (oxygen) with the smaller diff b/t the tank water level and the overflow level- but if you have a skimmer in your system - who care about that :D
