I've been fighting with corporate over their newly released animal caresheets for quite a few many months. Multiple E-Mails, back and forth phone calls, even a brief conference call, but yet these "sources of care information" that Petco pushes on uninformed future owners are just... cringe-worthy. These things look like they were typed up by 12 year olds. So help me out, please.

Go to http://www.petco.com/CareSheets/petco_CareSheets.aspx (Their public caresheet listing).

Go through the caresheets, identify problems (like how they refer to nearly every fish as an invertebrate) and use the contact-us form to comment to the corporate office here:

http://www.petco.com/content/contactsubtopic.aspx?PC=contactcompany#top

Let them know... Yes, we could just sit back and go "Well it's Petco why should we bother, let them suffer in their ridiculous misinformation" but a lot of people unfortunately go online not knowing where to start, and start at websites like this. These pamphlets are even handed out in the stores (Mine and Clear Lake store refuse to print these out for our customers now) and it's the least we could do to try and make sure CORRECT information is going out to people with interest.

Feel free to comment your finds in this thread.

They are not horrible, no offense but I dont expect anything more from Petco when it comes to saltwater. I pretty much only go to Petco for dog food and squeeky tennis balls, which have been damn near impossible to find lately. I still refuse to rescue any fish after the achilles incident.

I thought they looked pretty good for Petco? They don't cater to advanced hobbyist. More of the everyday needs.

I thought one of the goals of marsh was to increase education, awareness and understanding of marine aquaria, my apologies. Some of the care sheets are decent, but when every fish is called an invert, aquatic turtles recommend an undertank heater, and they recommend wayyy smaller tanks for some fish than they should, I worry.

Btw, the "achilles incident" wasn't entirely our fault here. The manager orignally declined to order it on customer request, she insisted she would pick it up same day we got it so he gave in. It came in, we called both numbers, email addy, no response for days. We did the best we could, and it did eat for the first couple days but after that it went downhill. We did everything we could outside of giving away a fish already supposedly promised to someone else. If you are going to be mad at me and my team here, please be mad for something that we could have controlled, like tanks bubbling, or improper nutrition. I came to marsh as a petco associate wanting to do better, wanting to know more. I became a member because I liked the feel of this club, and decided to give my own fish a try at home. , and I support the goals of the club.

Checked out "hard" coral, mandarin goby, cardinal fish, and clown/damsel. I don't see any mis information, fairly basic but not misleading. Perhaps they have changed them based on your suggestions. I didn't notice any fish labeled as an invert.

Yea skimming through a few more they corrected some of the issues. In the "housing" section is usually where they call them inverts for some reason. They used to list tangs as "recommended tank size: 30g" and that ich under "common illnesses" always listed copper treatments. It was alot of very silly things, really. I will post some when I get home I found are questionable.

I am not mad. Just a little disgusted and not at the fact that it was ordered, but by the fact that it was put into a system that is prone to ich outbreaks. I cant tell you how many times I have gone into that store and those front displays every fish has ich and not just a few dots here and there but completely covered. I would think that measures would be taken in order to cure the problem, ie UV sterlizers, use of copper meds, let the tank run fallow with no fish at all in it for 6 weeks, etc. I know your trying to make some changes, and just as a note, whenever I have had a store order live stock for me I prepay, might be something that you all want to consider in the future when ordering some of these higher end items.

Yep, this right here controls that 99% of the time. If they pay first people are more than likely to come back in. If they dont they could continue to look, find a better price/deal and decide youre a fish store so its not like you wont sell/be able to care for it.
