I know you're not suppose to chase pH, but look at these results. Prior to dosing Kalk, my pH range was 7.8 - 8.1. They average 8.05 - 8.2 now.

I took these photos a few days ago. Colors are insane. Curious to know what pH everyone is at. Look at my zoa colonies :)

Have your noticed your tank looking better if pH averages 8+? I'm shooting for 8.3

Btw, how many ml of the Kalk are you dosing daily?
I haven't noticed, but I don't pay super close attention. I do know that in the DT I monitor the PH and actively try to keep it high, while in the Invert/Coral QT I do not monitor it at all. In the DT the corals grow so much faster. I'll have something in the QT for 3-4 months and hardly any growth, within a month in the DT I can see it encrusting onto the rocks etc.

I just throw in 2-3 spoonfuls of kalk in the ATO everytime I fill it up. That lasts about 6 days.

You watched the BRS video about maintaining 8.3 recently huh?

Yes, but @davidrod8 was the person who put the idea in my head. Ever since I maintained an 8.1+ pH my tank has been looking great. I also dose 10ml of acropower daily around the same time too.

I have mine on a dosing pump for more flexibility. I started daily at 100ml and have increased it to 500ml.

Betcao01 curious ( sorry if I missed ) what’s your alk reading at?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Alk is at 9.9x.
Calc is at 460 - 470
Mg is currently at 1203. I will need to manually dose this until it hits 1300+

Do you think it is a correlation between higher alk, higher nitrate & phosphate & the higher PH? I've read those running higher nutrients need or can run higher ALK with good results. Not sure if the PH relates the same.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I just know it looks good with elevated pH.

What if you were to put a much higher amount in a container (say 1L) but the concentration is 10x higher. Then you could dose at a much lower rate to not fill as much. I guess you'd have to determine saturation level etc.

I adjust for the water content. The ratio is still the same. From what I read about Kalk, there is no benefit from adding more to one gallon of water. It doesn't make the water any more concetrated. The pH will still be 12.

True, but a ATO is a bigger container (probably). I do agree though having it on a doser (ideally a DOS) would be great.

That's what I currently have mine on. Screenshot_20200906-130512.jpg

I am considering this as well as I don’t have the space for a CO2 scrubber. My tanks are consistently at 7.7 - 7.8 and I would love to bring it up to 8.1- 8.3.

all I need to do is just add 2-3 tbs every time I fill up the ATO and monitor if I need to decrease or increase?

I believe the ratio is 1 teaspoon per gallon. It's easier if you can control via a dosing unit
