I am tired of using test kits to guage the PH of my tank and am looking at purchasing a PH monitor. I would like to know what others use and any pros and cons with the different brands and types out there. thanks in advance.

get one that is waterproof, because one day you will drop it in the tank.

Get one that is easily calibrated,

I suggest Hanna PhEP.

Thanks for the input. I have been thinking along the lines of a monitor such as a pinpoint or milwauke type for constant monitoring. Do you use Hanna PHep? and if so how do you like it?

I also use a pen style pH meter. I use one made by milwaukee. I have also been thinking about getting a pH controller. I haven't had any problems with pH yet so I have put off purchasing one for awhile.

I have used a phEP and one other kind of Ph pen made by Jenco. The PhEP I had worked well, until I broke the electrode being stupid. The Jenco also worked great, until one of the buttons stopped working :(

One problem I see with pH controllers in industry (cooling water towers) is they do not keep their calibration, and these are far higher quality than even the top line hobby equipment. I don't know if the saltwater enviroment is less harsh than the industrial one, but I'd be very skeptical that they can keep their calibration.

I never really thought about getting a pH controller personally. My philosophy in reefkeeping is to build the system with intrinsic controls (lower bioload, refugium, aragonite sands) rather than add complicated equipment that will need constant tweaking.

I too am tired of trying to GUESS the reading on those color chips.

I JUST, like 30 seconds ago, ordered a pHep5 meter from Leslea. I should have it in a few days and report back on how I like it.
