I need a few circulation pumps for a 90 G sps dominated tank. Had a few Koralia 4 in my 500 G FOWLR and they pushed tonnage of water. However they look rather bulky and unsightly. I need something more stream line for aesthetic value for I'd like everything tuck away in accordance to my I-want-this-tank-to-kick-arse motto :0)

And tunze is out of the question!

i cant believe how much they go for. Just outrageously priced for something that only move water.

Not to mention that some people buy them and hate them! I would die if I spent 1000$ on 2 power heads just to end up hating it. I sold my mp10. Dont get me wrong, there are many people that do like them but for that amount of change I had better love love love it.

From what I've heard, most people swear by them like a second coming of Jesus. I can't wait til someone produce knock offs at a fraction of their going rate.

Tucked away you have pretty much only have 2 options. Closed loop or Vortechs. If you pay attention you get them for around 350 used. I havent decided if I am going to pick up 2 more for the 300g in addition to the closed loop or if I am going to pick up 2 Mp60s. The only complaint I have about the Mp40s is the chattering, but they move water like a dream. Oh just thought of 1 other option. Tunze wavebox, but again your looking at 350 per. Closed loop is going to run the same. $200 ish for the pump and 150-350 for the OM 4 way. SPS need "Random Chaos".

Instead of going the closed loop route. Can I just straight plumb another pump in the fuge that way I can tuck it away from plain view in addition to my existing return pump ?

+1 again. If you want the smallest in-tank footprint, high flow, and randomness you can't go any way other then a Vortech. Closed loop IMO is a dated technology. Gotta pay to play! :)

i'm not so sure calling closed loop dated. it's quite energy inefficient vs a flow pump, but vortechs come with their own myriad of headaches. Having owned vortechs in the past, i'll not turn this in to a vortech thread, but closed loops are still very nice in creating random soft flow throughout the tank. If cleanliness is a must, closed loops are quite nice.

I just put up with the stream pumps in my tank and move on with life. they're big, they're ugly, but use so little wattage and put virtually no heat back in to the tank.
