Hello All,
I have a colony of UFO Micromussa for about 1 year. I think I will get a colony boom in a few *months*, and I will start fragging my main colony. I would like to put a few frags up for PIF. Attached is a picture of the colony.
Please PM any interests; please do not put requests in this thread because there will *not* be a first come priority. Being a rare coral, I may have preferences towards acan friendly tanks. I plan to release 1 headed frag every 1-3 months, for a total of 5 each year. These corals grow steady and double every 4 months, but they are small and occupy little space.
The following are my restrictions; please make sure you are comfortable with them before applying:
1. Non-Marsh members welcomed, but any recipients must post a message to this thread with their marshreef.com ID or have someone post a message with a valid email address. Recipients are required to accept PM or email inquiries as it relates to this coral (even after they complete their 3 PIF frags; however, messages that solicits to buy is not allowed to inquire or to accept).
2. Each recipient must PIF 3 frags before being released from these restrictions. Each frag must have at least 1 full head that is viable for 2 weeks after fragging before being released. Those new recipients must have a valid marsh ID or email address posted to this thread in one combined posting or individual posts over time *with* the donor marsh id or email.
3. Recipients of this particular PIF frag that is unsuccessful in growing are limited to 1 frag of this PIF frag by any participants for 1 calendar year of the last recipients. Donors that break this rule (under no fault of their own) cannot count those violations as part of their 3 frags to PIF. Only the original donor of the first unsuccessful PIF frag can count that towards their 3 PIF requirements.
4. Preferences will be given to candidates that have ideal setups (i.e., tank/picture of the month, tank tour hosts, etc.). Discretion and decisions are at the whim of the donor.
5. No trade or money can be made in the direct exchange of any of the 3 frags to PIF--any money to compensate for gas, time, or priority (bribe) will invalidate the PIF frag. The point is to make it as fair as possible; however, I will not restrict other trades for other corals and items if people want to combine the time, meeting opportunity, and schedule.
6. Intentional violators of any Marsh PIF programs is disqualified from this participation (period), and donors cannot count those contributions. (Violators will simply have to buy corals that graduate the PIF program.)

Propagation Tips:
* Each head is very small and grow next to each other, so it is best to use a dremel-like tool and carve an outline on the under-side of the rock that it is growing on. Note, there is usually less than 1mm separating each head with babies smaller than that; medium heads can be 1-3 mm, and adult heads can be 3-5mm. Use bone cutters, scissors, or razor to cut flesh--a steady-handed dremel would disintegrate 1-2 mm which may be too large of a cutting. (I have disintegrated 4 baby heads with a dremel-slip that skidded 1-3 mm. Avoid the temptations to dremel the flesh directly without accepting the potential loss of 2-3mm of flesh. Razors, scissors, and other devices that *cut* will allow better flesh recovery.)
* I use cracker-like slices of cut live rock to make each "tile" that I mount to. Super glue (gel) your cuttings to a flat surface; this makes for easier fragging in 4-8 months. It is possible to frag a single head; cutting with partial heads can survive if they continue to project their tiny feeders (like acans).
* These corals will grow faster when fed (like acans).
* I would wait until 3-5+ new baby heads fully develop into medium sized or full adults, and frag them all at once for the 3 PIF and your own collections. This will probably take about 6-8 months depending on feeding. I hear that they can eat 1x day; I feed an average of 1/week. The growth pattern is usually 1 medium starts to color up and produces little babies; mom grows into full adult and is fully colored and babies grow into medium sized while being a little dull / glassy in color. Once babies start coloring, they will have babies on the edge to produce a ring-like colony.
* Babies and med are very difficult to frag off because they are small. I tried just slicing them off with a razor, but the aftermath of "goo" will not stick to any frag pieces. They seem to slime off the super glue and refuse to stick down. My conclusions: it is best to use glue only on the rock that they are growing on--flesh do not seem to stick after 3 days.
----
Feeding is a personal choice, I personally use chopped up mysis, mixed with powderize flake food, and some selcon.

Recipients: Ostentum (6/18/11)
(I plan to update PIF spreadsheet--eventually, DRAFT line)
Next PIF colony estimates: 11/1/2012.
