I'm shopping around for advice on a portable AC unit for a fish room. I've got a room (the tandem bay of my garage that I'm walling off) that I'm using for my tank, and it has a dryer vent through an exterior wall that I'll use for venting the AC. I do not have a window, so a window AC unit is not an option.

Does anyone have one that they'd recommend?

I've looked at it, but they are not cost effective. for the amount of space I need cooled, a portable AC unit is the better solution. For the cost of a mini-split AC unit (which you're referring to), I could buy a portable unit and run it for 10 years. If I had a larger room, I think it's a different story, but as it is I'm shopping for a portable unit.

Anyone have one that they like?

When I was researching it, there were some that had internal condensate reservoirs that had to be manually emptied so make sure and avoid that.

I have one that I've used but not currently using. It did the job I needed it for well. Not sure of the brand, it's in my storage unit now, Delonghi maybe ?

You can find very affordable mini-splits (not name brands), I think I paid $300 or so for mine, new, 9000 BTU, found it on Craigslist.

The one I have has two ports, one for manually dumping the condensation or I have the option of hooking up the automatic drain line. Just need to have someplace for it to drain to.

Mine is about 3 years old now but it was a blessing to have when the hurricanes knocked out the power and when I'm working in the garage I fire it up to help with the heat.

It is made by Sharp Model CV-10NH
