Hello

I would appreciate any input anyone can give me on expenses for setting up a salt water tank in my home and another in my office.

Home tank is custom 80 gallon custom built into existing cabinetry. The cost is $4300 and does not include fish or a cooling unit (I don't need a cooling unit)

Office tank is 120 gallons and does require cabinetry. Also no fish or cooling unit. The cost is $6800.

I know that this is a difficult question to answer without specific of hardware etc. I just want to know is this average or very expensive for what I am purchasing?

Also what should I expect to pay for someone to maintain my tanks so that my involvement is minimal? How many times a month should they come?

Thanks

I asked him if this is a reef setup with all the wonder or not. He says this is an outside company just coming in and doing the whole setup for him.

It seems a bit high to me without chillers or livestock. Of course it depends on the cabinetry, custom cabinetry isn't cheap. Customizing a system to fit existing cabinetry may also contribute to the cost. If you're going to pay someone else to set up your system, and maintain it for you, then you're gonna pay through the nose though. Basically he should simply have all the companies in his area that do this kind of setup/maintenance bid on the job. And the lowest bidder may not be the best. Treat it like a contractor with a construction job. Get, (and check), references, look at pics of completed systems, etc...

Hell, I'll set a custom 80 gallon tank up in his home for a mere $4199 which will include livestock!

I don't think he is in this city, I also asked him which area of the country he lived in, for it would affect the price.

Good Idea about contacting all the other companies.

Nathan, did you know that it all 578 posts you've made, you've never once used the word 'because?' The only reason I noticed is because you use the word 'for' constantly. :D

Just one of those quirky things I notice from time to time. Carry on... hehe

I don't notice I do this, but Stefanie does, and jumps on me about it. For is a perfectly acceptable from, as far as I know, but she feels that it is not kind upon peoples ears "because" most people do not use it, sticking with the longer word.

I have just always used "for", and I don't really know why.

But it doesn't bother me that you pointed it out. Just goes to show another person besides my wife notices it, maybe that should tell me that I should actually try to change myself.

But by using "for" rather than "because" makes you sound more refined like some english guy :) or something.

I think I figured out why I use it. I am dyslexic (let me check, yeah I spelled that right ;) ) and since I have a problem with vowels next to each other, I normally try not to use a lot of words that have them close together. So I have developed a habit of using "For".

Yes, I used a mirror. ;)

Dyslexia, is not about reading backwards, its about letters moving or placement changing, or at least for me. I will switch letters a lot, or rearrange sentences I type. Have figured tricks to help me not make to to many mistakes, but when I hand write stuff it gets a lot harder for me.

But I made it all the way through high school thinking I was just a loser. Didn't really find out about my problems (yes more than just dyslexia), until I flunked out of college on the first try.
