For those of you lucky enough to ever see a Rhinopia eschermeyersi in person (while diving in Lembeh straits), heres your chance to see one in Houston- instea dof paying for a flight to Indo.

Scott at Tropical Fish depot brought one in. He/shes a beauty, great coloration, excellent adult size (approx 20cm), rocking back-n-forth like a algae frond...except pinkish purple, and eating damsels.

fish

I stopped by to pick up some supplies and took a look. They're asking $1000 for the fish. If I'm not supposed to post prices, sorry. The fish was really cool but it was in the system just a few cells down from several sick fish. There were 3 or more blue hippo tangs laying sideways on the substrate. There were also a few very skinny fish with no color, one of which was a powder blue. I didn't see any white spots like I usually do. I guess that's a little improvement.

Why do they allow sick fish to stay in the system? Why can't they balance it? I almost never see a single sick fish at Village.

Never mind...I read further and saw the price.....hmmm.....(the little accountant in my head is working overtime)...hmmmm. Man, she better come down on that price for me.

O.k., I've decided, for that price, it would HAVE to be a Purple Weedy Rhinopius (true Frondosa or Aphanes) :D

there is that $300.00 speeding ticket that I have to pay on the 17th.
the speeding ticket has gone up to $300 now :? the last time i got one (3 yrs ago), it was "only" $100 :D

hey, you can buy that fish and charge $10 admission fee for those who want to see it in person - you can even open a frag swap to get more fees :D hope i can make it there this weekend to take a look at the fish.

I decided to go with one of those lawyers, I know we talked about it but it really cuts down on the hassle..............

Thats a nice find for Scott, but a bit out of his price niche. Kewl fish though..........

Good to see he is scoring the rare stuff.............

Has anyone worked on him about SPS?

We should try selling our frags to the stores at a lower cost than they can get wholesale...

Yes the fish is pricey.....
you guys got to remember that this fish cost. Itts rare, its colorful and unlike many rare and hard-to-find fish. Wholsalers know what rhinopias are, and therefore your paying a luxury tax. The collectors, distributors, and wholsalers baby these fish, they travel in huge bags in its own box, from continent to the LFS. You can see the condition its in-excellent.
If it were Rhinopia aphanes or Frondosa, expect another 500-800 more dollars added on.
I've got photos of a R aphanes here

that one sold for 2 large

Tommy- i fully expected you to get him, I bet your other rhinopia and him would get along "swimmingly". kidding

I just talked to them about this fish. I'll go take a look at it. With that price tag though, It is out of my range for a pet. For sure, I'll buy some ghost shrimp while I'm there. :)

I had the opportunity to see this rare beauty up close two days in a row. It is just awesome! The pics are very good, but the colors and definition are much better in person. It's worth the trip down there to at least see this guy... There's also a Leaf Fish in another tank. Great score Scott!
