Is there any store in Houston that sells fully quarantined & medicated, if necessary, fish? Is there any store that will do it for an extra fee?
I'm quite willing to pay a premium for the service. I'd prefer not to have to set up a separate tank for this, nor am I an expert in fish disease - but I feel like I should be after all the suffering over the years...

Not really a store here that will do that but if you email Tidepool aquatics they sell fully qted fish and make sure they are eating for a super good price! Shipping is around $40 overnight. They have a thread on Reef2reef I can link.

A bit of a older thread but still has Blake’s number and email. When I get a lid for my tank I’ll be getting some wrasses from him.

Very interesting! What were the results??

I can tell you for sure that waste away absolutely works. I have not do any official testing, but it definitely isn't snake oil and there are some very noticeable results. ;-)

Fritz Turbostart 900 works the best. In sterile and non sterile tank.
Dr tim one and only and Bio spira also work in sterile and non sterile tanks but take a day or 2 more than Fritz Turbostart 900.
Rest every other brand I tested (11 brands some not even available in USA) are al Heterotrophic bacteria which are basically sludge removers and they require carbon source.
If put in sterile tank with only ammonia they will stall but if you add small amounts of food they will cycle the tank.

Just curious what would you pay for a qt fish? Let say an average $40 fish fully quarantined?

Local stores move hundreds of fish a week. Honestly I would not trust their qt process...it's just me. You can probably do a better job with limited knowledge. I was in the same situation as you with limited space in the house. I started buying fish only towards the fall/spring seasons (Oct-Mar) and set up a qt in the garage since the weather is much more nicer and a good heater can keep up the temperature. It worked out very well for me. Plus fish ship much better in the cooler months so less chance of stress/disease.

If I knew a fish was fully QT'd (and I trusted the store) I'd gladly spend an extra $50 for the fish.

Time is money, and the time it takes for me to QT a single fish is rather significant. Water changes, Tank Parameters, space, etc... Now if a store was doing it, and they were doing 20-30 fish at the same time then it's not nearly as bad.

Honestly I dont charge more for the fish because its qt. I buy from wholesalers and qt it and retail it for same price as main online retailers. Only cost you will pay extra for is shipping which is about $50-65
I am not in it for money. I do this so people can have healthy fish and tanks.

I highly recommend Marine Collectors. They quarantine their fish.
