My RODI unit has been burning thru the DI resin very fast. After about a weeks use of less than 100 gallons output my TDS goes from 0 to 2-7.

I've replace the carbon blocks and DI but before replacing the membrane I'd like some options, suggestions and answers.

For those living in Katy:
1). Are chloramines used in the water treatment?
2) Which carbon blocks are you using?
3). Any suggestions to try

Thanks,
Josh

Alternatively, Tvu, look into CO2 levels in the source water. It can spend you DI resin very quickly. A workaround is making water pre-DI, then aerating it with a bubbler, then pump it through your DI stage with a small pump.

Hey Josh,
I've heard from a few people there is chloramine in Katy water source. I'm still using my vertex carbon, filters haven't had any issues with any spikes. Still running at 0 tds.

I called in with the chlorine/chloromine question here in Spring. They said they usually use chlorine but it sometimes changes. I use the extra stage on my rodi.

Do you use city water or a MUD ? The city water report that I read last said chlorine not chloramine.

I'm not sure. I live in Katy but Fort Bend not Harris County. Wife handles the bills so I don't know who bills us [emoji16]

I'm in Old Katy and it is definitely the city water supply. The bill occasionally comes with a water report. You are probably in a MUD district and would want to contact them.

Yes most definitely Chloramines used in the water. I never had any issues using .5 micron prefilter/carbon. I tried the Chloramines carbon filters but did not notice any difference so went back to my normal filters. Never had any issues in Katy always zero tds water with 100 PSI (using a booster pump on the ro/di unit). I use the vertex puratek ro/di unit.

I changed the prefilter/carbon/di resin every six months. By the way, our house was new construction so we had a water district (MUD).

Thanks for the info RR. I was looking into the chloramine buster but have doubts on it.

I put an inline TDS meter on the RO output and getting 72ppm. Can't remember how long ago I set it up but I think 3 years ago maybe. Looks like it's time to replace my RO membrane. No wonder why my DI was being spent so quickly.

I use 1 micron sediment, 5 micron carbon and 2nd .5 micron carbon before the RO.
