I have never dosed before so I hope this isnt dumb haha.
My mg is a little low at 1140, I want to raise it to what it needs to be (1300?) and slightly elevate above that due to some algae that I am hoping it will also take care of. I bought some Kent Tech M today and it says to dose 1ml per gallon to raise 18.3 per day. if I have a 180gal with a 50gal sump, how much can I safely dose at one time and still be safe?

some weird stuff has been going on with my tank, I am going to attribute it to mg since I have tested everything else and it seems fine. My huge purple cap is almost all gone, gettig some weird algae which i believe to be bryopsis and also what seems to be dino. I will follow your wisdom sir

1500 is smoking high.

i personally thin the kent stuff is a bit watery. when i make mines (BRS formula), its almost a light slurry, very very concentrate, hence my previous mentioning of BRS magnesium kit, consisting of BOTH mag. sulfate and mag. chloride.

If you are running a calcium reactor then I would highly recommend using Brightwell Mag in it. I always had problems with mag until I threw some of this in my effluent chamber.

The Brs solution is actually thinner than Kent tech m.

180 gallons tank ( maybe 150 after rocks ) and 50 gallon sump ( around 50% full, 25g). So you're looking at a net of 175-180 total gallonage. With the Brs solution, you'll need 176 ounces to go from 1140 to 1500. It says to only dose 100ppm a day.

If you need the Brs stuff I got 2 tubs sitting here for pick up if you want. Just replace what you use next time there's a Brs group buy. Let me know if you want it.

You can always just put the mag solution into your ato. It'll slowly put magnesium into your tank.

thanks for the offer soy, I will let you know if this kent stuff doesnt work. supposedly kent is known to be better for getting rid of bryopsis which is why I got it. Im going out of town this weekend and then have to turn around and go out of town next week before my sons bday party, I was trying to get my tank somewhat clean before all these people come over, but if its not i iwll tell them the tank is going all-nartual ;) .
if I go through this i will definitely try to get with you on that brs solution

Oh I know Jason, that's a good way to keep magnesium up. But IMO Its easier to dose with a liquid product to get it where you want, then use something like the neomag to keep the magnesium elevated.

Neomag will raise mag slowly as it is dissolved in the lower ph calcium reactor chamber but I think Mario wanted something fast. Nothing is faster than liquid supplement.

Just let me know mario. I hope it's not dinos. That's a pita to get rid of.

Are you concerned about getting a chloride/sulfate imbalance using 2.3B or are you doing something else for the chloride portion?

Nothing, I just pour the mag. I made(2..3b) in my tank and check every 2 days till mag raise to what I want. Been doing it for yrs without any problem.

so according to this calculator : http://reef.diesyst.com/chemcalc/chemcalc.html

In order to raise 200gal from 1140 to 1500 will take 131.5 oz, the kent bottle i bought is 64oz @ $35 . fml.

Go to CVS or Walmart and get a 4lbs Epsom Salt bag and mix it with a gallon of RO water. Now you have a gallon of magnesium for under $6.

I use Recipe #2, Part 3B to make my magnesium.

I was going to say the same thing. This was in RHF's original 3 part formula
