Just one of those random reminders that I have read thousands of times. I thought to myself, eh "these guys have nicer tanks than I do, whats the harm?"
I like most developed a true passion with LPS, many get into zoanthids or acans and really excel in whatever their interest is. My path was always a mixed reef, not ever really leaning toward one particular type of coral, I considered myself a smart hobbyist, always playing by the rules and following advice of senior members. Fast forward several years with my current build, my objective was to introduce SPS into a mixed reef which to me was the ultimate desire!
Several months ago I made a deal with someone for a couple SPS colonies. I remember his tank was very mature, beautiful colonies of SPS. I was envious of this guys tank! It was like an underwater SPS playground! So I got home temp acclimated the bags and thought to myself "if he had colonies like that then surely there is no reason to dip!" Weeks later I discovered I had redbugs on my new colonies...
Today I am redbug free but for some reason it bothers me that I thought I had the ability to pick and choose when to dip or not to dip based on what? What their tank looks like? How much equipment they have? How nice or giving they are? Or even how much they know about the hobby!
Don't be fooled by what you think you see or don't see, takes 10 minutes, just do the dip!
