My macro tank is full of them tonight. Target (my copperband) is in heaven right now!

Video of the larvae and Target eating them:

Happy happy butterfly!

I have been tempted in the past to pick one up.

I wonder if the peps you gave me will also spawn in my tank :D My fish would go nuts over them!

Cat, what is the overall volume of the system you have them in? Just wondering for the sake of system stability. I think that is incredible and would love to have the same in mine one day.

I pulled a handful out of the tank, day 3 - these guys are so small! I don't have a macro lens, best I could do:

Little eyes already glowing :) For a sense of scale, that's a 3/8" airline tube:

Day 8 still going strong. Getting a little more color to them. I have them in a 1 gallon bucket with an airstone very slowly bubbling. Feeding them L rotifers, and adding some phyto every day for the rotifers to eat.

I turned off my vortech for a second and just sucked up a handful with a turkey baster. There were so many in the tank it was super easy :)

My cleaner shrimp female is loaded with eggs, I'm going to see if maybe I can catch them and raise them too :) Just have to be there when she releases the larvae which is usually after dark...

fyi, peps do not really need to start on rotifers. you can turn flake food to powder and they will eat if from day one. I read a book on breeding marine organisms, and peps were 2nd easiest because of that.. only bangaiis were easier. that should be good news :)

I know, however, rotifers have a huge benefit over flake food in that they're alive and they don't spoil. You need to do a lot of water changes if you feed prepared food, not nearly as much with live food like rotifers.

It did say hair algae from the flakes can get out of control easily. scrape it off and siphon it out with airline tubing, along with debris from the base of the tank.

I need to get some phyto going again. I let my last batch go. It started from the dt bottle thing and was going strong. I was about to start culturing rotifers, but school got busy.
