Hey all just curious as to your thoughts on these readings:
AMMONIA = 0.25 ppm
NITRITE = 0 ppm
NITRATE = 10 ppm

This is from miracle mud that has been sitting in a garage for around 5 or 6 months no water at all. I put some tank and new water water in there last night and once it softened up again, i mixed it up real well and these are the readings about 12 hours later.

well, miracle mud is realy just dirt, right? there should be some nitrate and ammonia in the mud, to act as fertilizer for the planted material

At least thats my guess.

BTW The box turtle is doing quite well, his legs have fully healed, and he's gobling up crickets as fast as he can catch them (pretty fast) I watched him eat 2 dozen in one sitting!

Well miracle mud is not quite what they advertise it to be but for the most part it is silica and mud with alot of metals and and sand from the reefs. overall there is no need to add the reef additives for a good 6 months depending on how many pounds you are running etc... I dont think that is too bad though considering it was just dried up and sittign there.

Glad to hear about the turtles recovery. I was worried a bit about him until you came and got him.

I put about 20 pounds in my front yard and the grass isn't any greener there. :D

I decided it wasn't so miraculous after all (which is why it went in the yard).

LOL yeah i know it. I am tryign to decide if i want to just pull it al out or not and just use someones live sand and some rubble rock instead. Only problem is i dotn want to go and pay 30 something dollars for sand when i wont use it all.
I guess that will be pretty much my only option from here though. PLus i wont really have much of a spike of toxins if i do it that way.

Speaking of ammonia..i cant seem to get mine to zero. I do regular water change, cut back on feeding to no avail. I use salifer ammo test. Any one of you guys have the same problems???? Sorry dont mean to jack this thread :D
