Been a long wait, but the tank is finally here! New release Reefer S-1000 by Red Sea.

210g display, 55g sump with extra refugium/frag tank extension. 82.7" x 26.75" x 25.6".

Thanks to Galactic Coral for the ongoing installation. Took us 8 extra guys and some bruised fingers to get the tank inside. Before the tank went in I had the floor reinforced since the tank by itself is 800+ pounds and this is a pier and beam house. Should hold 5k now.

In the middle of building the rock structure with Cornerstone reef rock.

We had to stop for the day after we got most of the rock in last night, this was day two of installation. Needs a few more pieces of rock but looking good! Hopefully we can get it running by the end of the day today, a lot of equipment to mount before then. Tank will mostly be run with Ecotech and Neptune equipment and I'll post a full list when we have it all together.

Had a few set backs yesterday, but the tank is running! Mostly anyway.
IMG_0700.JPG
We left a box at the shop so didn't get everything in yesterday but almost there!

We were able to get in two of the three radion XR30 Pros, the Neptune Apex and one of the two Neptune Core 15 return pumps. Today should be the last light and return, protein skimmer, a couple 300w heaters, two Vortech MPQD60s, and two Red Sea wavemakers.

Barebottom SPS dominate tank is the plan so going to put the wavemakers in the back and run when I need to clean up any detritus that collects. Most of the flow will be handled by the MPQD60s. Hopefully we can get the rest done soon.

Got some more rock in, looking pretty good. This tank is crazy quiet after some fine tuning. Upped the salinity a bit to 35 ppt and seems pretty steady at 78 degrees so added some Turbo Start. I'll test in the morning and add a few fish if everything looks good.

Bit more done everyday!
IMG_0760.JPG IMG_0764.JPG

Current Stock:
Yellow Splotch Rabbitfish
Yellow Tang
Hippo Tang
Five Lyretail Anthias (1M, 4F)

These are all fish from my other tanks that were starting to get a bit crowded. Need to find some fish now that I'm done raiding my other tanks.

Last of the pumps finally came yesterday! Added a second MP60 and two Maxspec Gyre f350s. Gyres I'll set up to run 6 hours on, 6 hours off. Their main function will be to clean up the bottom of the tank, but will be good for some on and off random flow.

Got the protein skimmer in, a Red Sea Reefer Skimmer 900, won't turn it on for another week or so though I'm thinking. Also built a little media tower out of egg crate, filled it with rubble, frag plugs and coral plates to cure for later and tossed it in the sump.

IMG_0770.JPG

Got a real heater in. Was using an old 300 watt ehime that I keep a few of around for backups, put in a True Temp 800w jbj titanium heater. This is an awesome heater, love the magnetic mounts. Need to find a proper place for it though. Also got a probe holder for the Apex which look like they need recalibration.

Next up is getting the second return pump set up properly. Running on one Core-15 neptune, don't have the right plumbing yet for the second pump.

I can't see! Time to add some lights in the stand so I can fix all this.

IMG_0799.JPG

Have one of these sitting around so hopefully it will do!

IMG_0798.JPG

Seems nice and bright, but worried I'll never be able to get it out if it dies. The self adhesive on it seems crazy strong.

Just stick it to the ceiling of the sump area and even if they die you wont notice the sticky left behind. I did this in my sump area as well and the lights have been doing well for years. Considering they are only on when I turn them on, they wont burn out anytime soon.

So tank has been running about two weeks and starting to get some film algae build up last few days. Time to turn on the protein skimmer!

IMG_0806.JPG IMG_0805.JPG
Looks good so far.

Bah! Can I stuff it with coral yet?!? Got a bunch of stuff brewing in the grow out!

Newest additions:
Sailfin Tang
Handful of various snails
Handful of blue leg hermits.

IMG_0818.JPG

Sailfin took right to the tank and the nori lasted less time than I expected. Next step, figure out how to hide the ribbon eel tube. See what I can do to get it behind the rocks, maybe order some black pvc?

Not a bad start! I'll have to pick up a few more branches and things to cover the rest up. He didn't take to the first tube I set up so need to make this one work. He comes out every morning, some evenings, and swims around for a few mins. Otherwise he sticks to the tube.

Got the tube mostly hidden. Need to figure out how to cover the end. Maybe drill a hole in a rock to fit and glue it on the end. Time will hopefully cover the rest.

IMG_0838.JPG

Little bit of a bacteria bloom, should pass soon enough. If it doesn't I'll add a UV sooner than I planned.

A few days from one month running. Bloom almost gone, had to set up an extra 25 watt UV I had laying around to keep it from getting out of hand.
IMG_0930.JPG
IMG_0932.JPG

Not pretty but it did the job. 80 watt gets here on Thursday as well as my ato tank and it will be properly plumbed in and should be super clear! Getting closer top adding coral, might add something on Friday if all goes well with the UV and testing.
