hey jr i know that there are many on here that are going to disagree with this...but i'll tell you what i did. i had it for about a month and a half and i tried water changes every day and that didn't work...i also bought crabs and that didn't work. so fireeater told me about chem clean (reef safe) and i bought it. it is pretty pricey for what you get...i paid 24dollars for it...and i dropped in it and i've not had any since. there are lots on here that say that you shouldn't add any chemicals that you should fight it by nature means. my thought is that i'm so new that i don't want to mess things up and if it is reef safe i never understood the harm. it's worked great for me.

There may be no harm, but if you do not correct the cause of the outbreak, you will get another one sooner or later. part of the challenge for me is to work at getting my tank parameters as balanced as possible and avoid any large outbreaks. This is not easy to do in a "box of water". Too many nutrients can cause cyano outbreaks, unfiltered water, too much bioload, all add to the problem. In the long run, if you want to enjoy a stable and lower maintenance system, these are the area's that you should be looking at.
