Hey guys wanted to ask if anyone is using the reef rock 2.1? The purple color is cool, but ive read some reviews about bacteria blooms? Anyone using this type of rock or is everyone using dry rock? Planning on using in a nano tank, but still don't have one yet LOL

I'm not familiar with this particular rock but before you put any rock in your tank you should let it sit in RODI and test for phosphate. Empty water, refill, and repeat until you get 0.

If you are talking about the Walt Smith 2.1 rock from TBS, go for it.
Make sure you request that, and not the pukani.
No need to cure, just goes right in your tank.
And if you get a bacteria bloom don't worry. Doesn't always happen but its normal and clears in several days as things even out.

I just added more rock to my tank to give me more spots to place coral. I used this rock and haven't had any issues at all. It went right from the box to my tank.

I looked at Reef Rock 2.1 but ended up with Carib sea life rock instead.
BRS sells the 2.1 rock and the reviews are very bad. Apparently the finish comes off the rock over time.
There is a video on YouTube showing this issue. According to the video manufacture would not replace the rock.
Also, the rock seams to discourage algae growth on the service of the rock.

I added 70 lbs of Carib sea life rock last weekend and it’s already got some algae growth on it. No changes to my water parameters as of yet.

You should see how fast the 2.1 colonizes at TBS. It's insane.

This was only THREE MONTHS. Already covered in tunicates, barnacles, sponges, real coralline...
And i believe its colored all the way through now.
I'm heading down there in a couple weeks and bringing back about 120lbs of the stuff. :high5:

That’s impressive.
The rock is not colored thru and thru. It’s gray inside per the YouTube video.
Makes me wonder if the person who is having pealing problems cleaned it with something they should not have.
