I was thinking about replacing my front pane of glass with low iron and breaking down/resealing the entire tank. Has anyone done this or recommend someone that can do this?

I wouldn't, tons of elbow grease required and if you goof the seal, tons of water will be on your floor one day when you least expect it. Starphire is nice looking but honestly not that much better to be worth all the labor required to do this. Plus, it scratches super easy.

The biggest challenge is removing the plastic trim from the tank you're doing it on. Once removed, you'll have to order a replacement plastic trim or go with euro-bracing/custom trim. You'd be surprised how important that tiny little thin piece of plastic is to the integrity of your tank.

I had no idea that Starphire glass scratched easier. That is so good to know!

I just disassembled a tank and resealed it to use as a sump...it is alot of work, takes patience, and yes...if you don't do it right you will find yourself with a salty, soggy mess in the morning.

Just for knowledge do all low iron glass scratch easier?

I'll stick with the older car. LOL! I think I would be more critical of a piece of glass that cost so much more too. Though the tank that I originally bought to make a sump out of looks a lot "greener" than the bigger one I noticed it as soon as I was adding water, I was like that glass looks "green." Maybe it is the size, maybe it is the better lighting in the house not sure but I don't remember my old tank looking that "green."

Wouldn't it be niece if they made crystal clear scratch proof glass?

could be... could also be that the more money the glass costs, the more you notice the scratches. It is like parking lot dings on a porsche vs a 1998 honda civic.

Lol [emoji23] this is very true
