I am having to change filters every 200 gallons on my water and ice typhoon 2. By the time I finish the third 100 gal tank my numbers are over a 100.
Is my water here that bad or could I be doing something wrong? At this rate I would be better off going to walmart and filling 5 gal jugs

Do you have a tds meter on the unit?

What’s the incoming water tds? Mine is bad in pearland- around 412 ppm

All the filters, or certain ones?

What bit I get, Chloramines, CO2 and Silicates are some things that can impact certain ones hard. Chloramines are hard on the RO, CO2 and Silicates can hammer the DI filter... an ex: my initial DI filter is @ 50% after roughly 30g... Also seen suggested, to run water off the filter a bit first then connect and filter.

This shouldn't be the case. I think something is up with how your unit is plumbed. I need to make a trip up there to look at your RO.

Two questions with rodi i always ask cause this is what will deplete your media quicker than anthing...What is pressure across membrane and do you have the correct sized restrictor for the GPD filter your using? Low pressure equals media loss x 2

no The city water plant is literally a couple blocks from me.
If I can offer for your perusal...

"The problem for aquarists is that chloramine is not effectively removed by standard RO/DI systems and the presence of chloramine will quickly exhaust your DI cartridge."

"Since a typical carbon block cartridge will not remove chloramine effectively, a special chloramine removal carbon cartridge is needed."

I too think its a low pressure issue... @reeftopia does your unit have a pressure pump built into it?

Basics.. contact the water co and get a report. It should tell you if they are adding chlorine, chloramine or whatever. Make sure you’re using a low ppm solids removal cartridge (1 micron or below) as the first stage. Then the carbon stage (s) can be wide open like 5ppm. If the carbon stages are small pores like the primary, they can clog up reducing the effectiveness of the carbon. Consider a GAC stage and a catalytic carbon stage to address chloramine. When replacing filters, Always push water per stage so subsequent filters down the line don’t clog.

I’m sure you’re doing most, if not all, of that already but just a quick refresher. I forget stuff all the time lol
