Has anyone tried keeping one or known someone?
Yep! Was the best CUC member my sand bed ever had! I would NOT however recommend this for anyone with an immature tank. A mature and established sand bed is important to keep a sand dollar healthy, happy, and well fed. They will strip a sand bed of any nutrients or beneficial bacteria so you must be careful.
One nice perk I noticed with my sand dollar, they will also wipeout Cyano from your sand bed.

I got it from a former sponsor. I believe it came as a "space filler" in their shipment and they weren't expecting it so they called me up and asked if I wanted it. The kids loved it, way cooler than a starfish! I had a video at one point showing how it buried itself in the substrate. He and the horse shoe crab were besties. Once I upgraded my tank and went with new substrate I re-homed it so it wouldn't starve and prolong my cycling by stripping my new substrate of any colonizing bacteria.BTW...where did you locate a live sand dollar?! I’ve seen them in Florida, but only dead broken pieces here.

On the slower side, but similar to a sandsifter starfish. That is so cool. Was it a fast mover or ultra slow?
