I'm ready to order the sand for my tank but would like some input. I want something heavy enough to not blow around quite as much but at the same time small enough for sand shifters. I'm also unsure about the depth. I don't want a deep and bed so I'm thinking about 1.5 inches. I'm thinking 3 bags of the fiji pink for my 48X18. All input is appreciated.

I like the pink fiji myself. As for sand depth, I would research the needs of the fish you intend to stock as some of them have specific needs as far as DSB or SSB is concerned. The depth also plays a part in filtration and nutrient export/import. Good luck!

Hi, Lynn.
You're gonna get a lot opinions on sand beds, that's for sure. Best bet is to go with what you like. IMO, either go deep - 7 inches or more of the very fine stuff, or go very shallow, 1/2 inch at the most. I've had both successfully, my current tank is shallow, only 1/2 inch. For shallow, Fiji pink would be great.

Good luck,
Steve
