I was cleaning the glass and the magnet dropped onto my LTA and scared the !@#$! out of it, and it instantly shrunk completely beneath the sand. I had read they could do that, but hadn't witnessed it before. Kind of cool and sad at the same time.

Anyone know how long they usually stay hidden under the sand? Hours? Days? That corner of the tank just looks so empty with him.

Maybe your LTA went to go see your BTA. :D My powerhead fell on my BTA one night and it took it two days to look right again.

I dropped my giant colt coral on my BTA sunday morning.
My BTA recovered by last night.
My colt on the other hand, ummm, I don't know what happened, but it doesn't look like its going to recover.
Thing was over 14 inches tall, could have got tons of frags out of it, instead I drop it on my anemone and now it looks like its dying.

When my LTA shrivels like that it's back to normal in a few hours, overnight at the most.

This one time..at band camp...I mean, when I was trying to remove my carpet anemone from the bottom of the tank (I can't remember why I was doing this), I was gently trying to get his foot to release from the glass. Well, I must have freaked him out because the whole thing sucked under the sand bed and I had a really hard time finding him!! I could even imagine that such a massive thing could become so tiny so fast. My clown wasn't quite confused for the rest of the day until it came back. I think the anemone decided to wait until dark to re-emerge.
