Scientists discover world's oldest colour – bright pink
Annnnd, you're wondering "what the h*ll does this have to do with marine, OR reef"?! Well I'll tell ya. Being an artist I'm fascinated with pigments, so I read lots of stories like this.
But at the end of this particular article, I actually laughed out loud!
It's a little long, so I'll give you a snippet and the punch line with a link at the bottom to the original article.
"Scientists have discovered what they say are the world’s oldest colours – and they are bright pink."
“I remember I heard this screaming in the lab,” he said. “She came running into my office and said, ‘look at this,’ and she had this bright pink stuff."
“It turned out to be real pigment, 1.1bn years old.” (seriously WOW!)
"When the researchers had analysed the structure of the pink molecule, they were able to find what had produced them – tiny cyanobacteria."
Personally I can image some screaming at seeing cyno, but not so much in excitement or happiness! Still, a pretty amazing discovery. Just...not in my aquarium please!
