Just bought 2 sea hares from citypets. From what I have read they multiply like mad. I am going to start reading up on them now, but does anyone have any experience with them? Thanks

Eric

only that they can ink-up and it can be rough on the tank if you dont have fresh carbon in.

From what I know, they are great at eating a bunch of types of algaes.

I bought one and lost it the next day thanks to my AC breaking and my tank going up to almost 90 degrees......
Haven't had the extra money to buy another one and they aren't that common at any of the LFS.

ipsf sells them, but is real proud of them (if you know what I mean) in fact they are pretty high on most stuff.

I got 4 of the small ones at CP before xmas. Now I have 3 left. They are algae eating machines! Better than ANY snail I have ever owned (trochus, turbo, astraea, etc) because they eat a LOT and fast, and they don't flip over and die.

I hope you didn't get the 4 inchers they had last week. IMO that is too big.

Cheers
James

There is little to no info available on sea hares.

There is a company out of fla that aquacultures them for research purposes.

Few reefers have had success with them.

Here is a bit of info ive picked up. If they mate, supposedly they will die shortly after.

I purchased one online awhile back and it lasted 2 days. There are quite a few different species and the one I had was much different than the ones sold at that well known online vendor..forget the name...home of the bali sea monster. I contacted that vendor through email and they keep their tanks at .025 at around 80 degrees.

I saw some for sale at fish r us on 242 yesterday. They look amazing and I nearly purchased one but had to hold myself back due to a lack of algae to supply their voracious eating habits.

Keep us updated on the health of your new sea hares. Ive been thinking about adding one to my refuge to chew back the excess hair algae and macros I trim monthly.
