I have established a hard link between my router and Apex. I'm trying to set up the wireless connection and stuck on the port forwarding part. I have a Netgear wireless router. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Have a great day!

Can you post the model number of the Netgear router? Different models will have different interfaces for setting up port forwarding.

Also, are you trying to switch the apex from the hardwired connection to wifi, or just enable access from the internet?

I'm trying to switch from hard wired to wireless. But I also want to set up internet access. Netgear WNDR4300. Thank you.

1. Log into the router setup.
2. Go to Advanced Setup -> Port Forwarding/Triggering
3. If your Apex is set to use port 80 (the default), check the "Service Name" drop for an entry like "Web" or "HTTP" (not HTTPS) and skip to step 7. Otherwise, go to step 4.
4. Click "Add Custom Service"
5. Enter the following settings:
a. Service Name = "Apex"
b. Protocol = "TCP" or "TCP/UDP" (either should work)
c. External Starting and Ending Port = 80.
d. Do not check "Use the same port range for the internal port"
e. Internal Starting and Ending Port = port number used by the apex.
f. Internal IP Address = IP address of the apex (the default is usually 192.168.1.50)
g. Click Apply
6. Back on the Port Forwarding screen, select the service you just created in the "Service Name" drop-down.
7. Under "Service IP Address", enter the IP address of the apex (again, the default is usually 192.168.1.50)
8. Click "Add".

Once the port forwarding is set up, you can test it by doing the following:
1. Go to 403 Forbidden
2. Enter that IP address listed into the address bar on your browser.
3. You should be prompted to login to the apex.

FYI, I found the user manual for the router on Netgear's website (ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WNDR4300/WNDR4300_UM_15Nov12.pdf). The steps above come from pages 98-100.

Hopefully that all makes sense. If not, let me know.

Once the port forwarding works, you'll probably want to set up a DDNS (Dynamic DNS) account so you can use a name (like AliciaApex.com) instead of the IP address to access the Apex from outside your home.

This and a lot of other threads are deterring me from an apex even though the description on the websites says "plug n play" looks like a plug and pia

Apex Fusion will make all this much easier. It's a web service Neptune is providing that you will be able to log into and monitor/control your Apex from there. Configuring your apex to talk to it is much simpler - I haven't done it myself, but it should be MUCH more straightforward. Check out this thread on Neptune's forum for more details: MACNA Product Announcements. There are some mixed reactions to it regarding security, but overall everyone seems to be very pleased with it. It's in open beta right now.

You can always put in a support ticket and start a chat log. Apex is pretty good at helping. You can also do a "team viewer" session with them or another reefer. You download the simplest version and give the person the password, and let them drive on your computer if you trust the person. They will be able to Look at your settings and configuration like it's their own computer in front of them. You can also start a chat log on note pad or in the teamviewer box while the person is driving. If they get stumped on a password or person info, you can type it in for them and they can take the wheel again. Love team viewer!!!
