So Joe got me thinkin i should turn my 471G tank into a Fowlr tank. I can make it into the sickest fish only tank around and get a smaller tank and make that into a reef.. Now the question is should i turn my 471 into a fowlr or try to maintain it as mix fish n reef what u guys think?

I say go reef, you can create a sick piece of the ocean in your tank, and recuperate your money when you start fragging. Yes fowler has some of the worlds most beautiful fish, but after a while it will become boring. corals are so much fun to look at especially LPS, watching them sway in the current. I believe yo could have a sick mixed tank.
LPS and SPS.

Only benefit i can see with a fowler tank in your situation, is a lower electric bill. you can downgrade to T-5s. giving you a cooler running tank.

Just my 2 cents!

trust me, with a fowler, you will buy fish, trade fish, lose fish and get sick of it or bored. just fish is a little boring. it brings me great joy to see coral growth, seeing little creatures doing their thing late at night. seeing the diff worms at work. finding hijackers (the good kind).

last personal oppinion, picture this!
tank full of corals, you have your school of chromis and anthias with a couple of fire gobies. all swiming in harmony, plus the beautiful colors of the corals.
You can even keep cost down by doing LPS only.
so many great options out there in the lps world.
you can have a mat of zoas, a wall of GSP, some brains, Large colonies of hammers and frogspawn.
plus huge toadstools.
check this out, it's a mix tank, but look at the colors:

i would say with fowlr u get all the exotic color fishes, but with reef u get the enjoyment of corals clams etc. I prefer reef anyday just i really really want angels

Isn't this tank really deep? I would say fowlr if that is the case.

Flex, lps does not mean cheaper necessarily. It could mean the exact opposite, have you seen the scoly or chalice market?
