It was making more noise than normal last night so I turned it off. Normally it makes noise when air gets into the pump. When I turned it back on, no workie... I'll take it apart and look for obstructions this evening.

<sigh>

Now on the hunt for a Bubble Magnus replacement pump. Considering these things run 24/7 for years on end in a very harsh environment, I can't say I've too many complaints.

Sometimes we take for granted the engineering required to make these machines run for so long through such torture.

An excellent idea, for sure.

I think the pump is a Atman Ph2500. Will check when I get home.

I soak my pump in vinegar or dilute muratic acid every 3-4 months to remove calcium deposits. Seems to help.

Well, I took the pump apart and got it running....sorta.

There wasn't any blockage that I could see but the pump is loud and obviously worn out. I've ordered a replacement pump.

General maintenance is a good idea but I'm not convinced would have been a preventative in this case. The housings are in good shape, the impeller just fine. There is something internal going on.

I'd like to thank Dennis at Fish Just Wonderful for offering and helping to replace the pump -- stand up guy and the reason he gets my business!

Cleaning in vinegar every 12 months as I'm running a LNS and my Alk isn't as high as most tanks 7.5 and yes I have for every pump a backup.
Even I have a backup MP40 and now a backup Gyre too, you just don't want to go without as the risk can costly if you don't.
I'm using for skimmer and return the Mag-Drive Supreme, Reliable, trusted submersible prominent pump in the aquarium industry.
All connected to a union in case of failure to have it removed and within 5min it's all backup and running.
For my reactors I use Eheim compact pumps.
Both pumps are proven to success and durable for years.
Just got myself a new 1800 gal Mag for $89, now I have a backup for the backup

Just an update.

New pump is in. I used to say the only thing I didn't like about my BM NAC7 was how loud it was. With the new pump, I do not have that complaint anymore.

This thing is pretty quiet now.

The old pump is sitting in a vinegar bath and will be relegated to backup status.
