I am having issues with my reef octopus skimmer. Bought second hand so not sure of the model but it is one of the newer ones I believe. My "bubble line" is to high up the neck causing it to over flow. I have to keep the intake up against the sump wall to restrict the flow. That would suggest to me that the water line is to high ( side note, I hate the sump I have but it came with the tank.) . Any suggestions? I have the skimmer up on a clay pot so it really isn't that far down in the water. Half the height of the skimmer? Maybe a little less. I'm getting frustrated with it. Should I look into a shorter model such as a life reef or something along those lines?

Can you post a pic and model of the skimmer?
Did it started suddenly or you just have it running?
Perhaps you added something in the water that skimmer is going crazy on, spanning corals?
Really IMO stop guessing and get a LifeReef, I'm super happy with it and will be my only skimmer I ever will use on a tank.
But it will be a hard pill to swallow to drop another 6 franklins.
I have a freebie skimmer in my frag system that I will take down in January and your welcome to try that, it's a top of the line brand but can't remember of the top of my hat.
Will go Lifereef on the new System I'm working on.

As you can see I don't have any more room to raise the skimmer higher out of the water which was why I was thinking shorter skimmer?

other option I guess would be to redo the diy baffles to lower the water level.

I have never felt like this skimmer sump combo worked well together in the first place but the issue was worse when I turned it off to clean the cup. Valve is wide open and still over flowing.

Or you can trade it for a smaller skimmer that works.
Lowering the baffles will work but I'm looking for a simple solution.
Can you add a valve to your inlet to reduce the flow coming in?

Never thought about adding a valve. It's just a union connecting the pump to the body so I'm sure a valve could get in there.
